A New Image for Monadnock Indoor Tennis Club

At the beginning of 2008 the Monadnock Indoor Tennis Club (MITC)  challenged the Contoocook Valley Regional High School (Peterborough) graphic design program to design a new logo for their organization.

Linda Greenwood, representing MITC, collaborated with Andy Bills, Graphic Design teacher, to generate a competition aimed at high school students in the Peterborough school district. The competition process was structured to simulate a business atmosphere with a realistic type of account client relationship.

“I prepped my students with a lesson in interviewing skills,” explains Bills. “Then we set up our appointment with Linda Greenwood a few days later at which time I handed the ball over to them.”

Students asked many questions of Greenwood to determine MITC’s goal and to get a solid idea of what the tennis club’s needs were. They took minutes, analyzed the data and started the design process by presenting many different ideas and drawings.

Errol Hall, ConVal graphic design student, adds, “Our main focus has always been on the conceptual stage.”

The winning design was created by Derek Beauchamp and Molly Taafee, who have now graduated and have real experience working one-on-one with business clients.
The new MITC logo reflects the flavor of tennis through a clean picture of a tennis ball bouncing off of the line of the court.

“We love the simplicity of the design that gives great impact to our new yard sign and to all of our brochures, posters and advertisements!” comments Greenwood, “And we are very impressed with the professionalism and talent emanating from Bill’s ConVal class.”

Beyond the new logo design, MITC has also recently launched a redesign of the club website (www.mitconline.org). This new site was designed and built by club members Melissa and Glen DiPalma who work on a freelance basis helping arts, education, environmental and non-profit organizations improve their online marketing and communications. They specialize in developing websites that can be managed and updated within the organization making them more current and cost effective. You can find out more about their work by visiting www.virtualbuzzmedia.com. The new MITC website is now very user-friendly and packed with helpful information that is updated weekly for both the public as well as for members.

MITC is a non-profit, private member-owned tennis community founded 43 years ago.  The goal was to build a family-oriented facility for people who love tennis and who want to play during the long NH winters. The club offers three types of membership that include all court reservation fees.
